Marcel Kulicke: Honorary Member of the EE-ISAC
November 2024
The EE-ISAC is thrilled to announce that Marcel Kulicke has joined the Association as an honorary member. With long and solid experience in cybersecurity and a passion for fostering collaboration, Marcel’s addition to the community brings new opportunities for growth and exchange.
In the following lines, we will dive deeper into Marcel’s journey, exploring his professional milestones, his involvement in cybersecurity, and his vision for contributing to the efforts of EE-ISAC. Get ready to learn more about the person behind the expertise and his aspirations for the future of this dynamic and collaborative community.
Journey and key milestones in cybersecurity
Marcel is a computer enthusiast by nature, starting with the persevering effort to understand and partially master a Commodore 64, later an Amiga 500 setup in the 90ties that later lead to MS-DOS-based PCs with dedicated Turbo-buttons. As evident, handling these machines required some familiarization and built the basis for a more thorough study of informatics.
“Cybersecurity was not much of a topic these days, but it gained traction in projects and ended up as my field of specialization and enabled a later switch into penetration testing, because who doesn’t like to break things?!”
Deeper specialization into cybersecurity for OT marked his last professional milestone before the enablement aspect took clear preference when he got the chance to lead his own team and later segment of a cybersecurity department.
EE-ISAC Membership
He first joined the EE-ISAC as a delegate on behalf of Siemens AG, who is a member of EE-ISAC in its role as a vendor. For Marcel, the exchange and contact with the various entities throughout the supply chain was a great motivator as everyone has a different set of problems and/or a different perspective on them. He highlights the value of having personal contact with the various representatives as a great learning experience. He hopes to continue in that spirit as an honorary member.
EE-ISAC role in cybersecurity and threat intelligence
“There are many committees and organizations that have the objective to foster collaboration in the cybersecurity sector, so there is a competition over the available time and dedication of its members. EE-ISAC is a sector-specific, yet international, community and is therefore able to address the sector-specific issues, such as the longevity of infrastructure and the highly regulated environment, but also accomplish that across borders.”
He adds that many common topics arise out of the needed collaboration on EU topics and here the focus on the EU countries as well as the participation of the ENISA in EE-ISAC is a great asset.
Contribution to the EE-ISAC efforts
Marcel states that the EE-ISAC consists of various channels for collaboration, such as the quarterly plenaries, but also the task forces and working groups. He hopes that his contributions into these groups will be a valuable addition to them and that the communication to and feedback from the plenary will even add to our reports and guidance.
