EE-ISAC and Cynergy-ISAC sign Memorandum of Understanding

February 2023

Brussels, Belgium –  Cynergy-ISAC and the European Energy Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (EE-ISAC) sign today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to further promote the exchange of cyber security information of the EE-ISAC and enhance the cyber resilience of European electric power critical infrastructures.

With this Agreement of Cooperation, the parties stress the importance of information-sharing to protect Europe’s energy sector from cybersecurity threats by providing useful knowledge and analysis on security best practices, attack trend and breaches.

EE-ISAC is the result of multidisciplinary cooperation reached in Europe by private operators, service providers, academia and (non-) governmental agencies, with the mission of strengthening resilience through cybersecurity information sharing within a trusted community of over 30 members. Activities include sharing information on the evolution of cyber threats to energy infrastructures and sharing best practices and innovative initiatives in the context of protecting networks, industrial systems and operational technology.

Aurelio Blanquet, the EE-ISAC Secretary General, stressed the importance for the European energy ISAC to also collaborate with other national-level energy ISACs. “As speed becomes central to avoid locking our energy system with the cyber kidnapping of its digital SCADA & ICS systems, information sharing and close cooperation between trusted stakeholders are of utmost importance.

By signing this MoU with Cynergy-ISAC and working together we can combine forces to promote knowledge sharing, advocacy efforts and other activities to improve regular coordination leading to more effective decisions and coordinated actions.

As a cornerstone EE-ISAC firmly believes that only by working together we will go further in a safe and resilient European Energy System.”

CYNERGY ISAC is the first national-level ISAC, established a trusted community of members representing the Romanian energy and electricity industry. CYNERGY-ISAC can easily provide useful knowledge and support to members when facing cyber security threats. It is hosted by SN Nuclearelectrica SA, a partially state-owned Romanian nuclear energy company.

Cosmin Anghel, Chairman of Cynergy-ISAC, states: “The dynamics of the events around us raise challenges that lead us to improve cooperation standards to extraordinary solutions for strengthening threat intelligence sharing. This MoU is the commitment that Cynergy-ISAC and the European Energy Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (EE-ISAC) undertake to improve cooperation and multidisciplinary development in terms of cyber security. More than ever threat information sharing is needed to proactively mitigate the cyber threats which increased in volume and complexity in the last years.

The Partnership presents the two parties with the opportunity to move further forward with building a trusted network to exchange information on cyber security threats.
