Brussels, Belgium – As the energy transition accelerates, strengthening the digital resilience of energy systems is becoming increasingly important. Against this backdrop, Energy Innovation NL, formerly TKI Offshore Energy, and the European Energy Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (EE-ISAC) are joining forces to foster collaboration between innovation and cybersecurity communities and support the development of a more resilient offshore energy system.
The cooperation is formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which provides a framework for information exchange and joint activities in areas of common interest, with an initial focus on research, innovation and the digital resilience of the offshore energy system.
Energy Innovation NL is the driving force behind the innovations needed for the shift towards an affordable, reliable, safe and sustainable energy system. It brings together companies, knowledge institutions, governments and societal organisations to collaborate on the energy system of the future, while supporting initiatives that accelerate the energy transition, create new economic activity and strengthen international competitiveness.
Soe van Dijk, Innovation Analyst at Energy Innovation NL, noted the importance of cybersecurity in the energy transition: “The energy transition depends on secure and resilient energy systems. Through our participation in the EE-ISAC, we aim to connect innovation, cybersecurity expertise, and international collaboration to help address digital risks in the energy domain.”
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, EE-ISAC and Energy Innovation NL aim to promote cybersecurity information exchange and strengthen collaboration in areas of common interest, with an initial focus on research aimed at improving the digital resilience of the offshore energy system and on matchmaking to build consortia for relevant funding opportunities.
Massimo Rocca, Board Director of EE-ISAC, highlighted the impact of the partnership: “Collaboration and trusted information sharing are essential to addressing the evolving cyber threats facing the energy sector. We are pleased to formalize our cooperation with Stichting TKI Energie and look forward to working together to enhance cyber resilience throughout the European energy landscape.”
The partnership also connects with the FLECS initiative, of which Energy Innovation NL is one of the founding partners. FLECS is a long-term public-private partnership focused on improving the cyber resilience of offshore wind infrastructure in the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone. This connection also supports the work of the Offshore Wind Task Force recently launched within EE-ISAC.
